Mathias Flume

Mathias Flume, PhD, has been Department Head of Business Unit Prescription Management at Kassenärztliche Vereinigung Westfalen Lippe, Dortmund (Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians) since 2005. KVWL is a German association (a branch of the wider KV - Kassenärztliche Vereinigung/Physicians Association) which represents the interests of physicians and other healthcare professionals. Dr. Flume manages and develops the Business Unit responsible for all prescriptions of ~11000 doctors. He has a special interest in the assessment of innovative drugs and their implementation in regional prescription management.

His external consulting work focuses on HTA strategy projects with a focus on the German system for drugs, biologicals and ATMP. Prior to this, Dr. Flume was a Consultant Pharmacist for KVWL (2002-2005). Dr. Flume received his pharmacy training at University of Muenster (1998) as well as his PhD (2001) and an executive MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, Chicago (2008).
