Dr. Wenhui Mao has been working extensively in the health financing and health policies, and their impact on access to, affordability and equity of health services in low- and middle-income countries.

Wenhui joined Duke Global Health Institute, Duke University in 2016 and currently, she holds two positions at Duke. As an Assistant Director, Programs for the Duke Global Health Innovation Center and Innovations in Healthcare, Wenhui leads the knowledge and research initiatives for a program aiming at identifying the pathways, enablers and barriers of launching and scaling up of live-saving health interventions (Launch & Scale Speedometer program). She also serves as the research lead of the COVID-19 Global Accountability Program, which provides evidence and insights to accelerate equitable response to end the pandemic.

As a Senior Policy and Research Associate at the Center for Policy Impact in Global Health, Wenhui leads multiple countries research programs on donor financing, advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and health policy analysis and economic evaluation.

Prior to joining Duke, Wenhui received her PhD in Health Economics from Fudan University, China. Wenhui has published over 70 articles on peer reviewed journals including the Lancet, PLOS Medicine, Health Policy and Planning, BMJ Global Health, etc. and over 40 working paper, policy briefs and blogs. Her recent paper synthesized China’s 10 years of drug reforms.
