Prof. Filippo Drago graduated summa cum laude in Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Catania, Italy in 1978. He obtained the specialization in Psychiatry in 1982 at the University of Catania and in the same year he obtained his doctorate research in Pharmacology at the University of Utrecht, The Netherlands. He also obtained the specialization in Neurology in 1986 and in Mental Hygiene in 1990. Currently Prof. Drago is Full Professor of Pharmacology at the School of Medicine of the University of Catania, President of the Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacovigilance Unit, Polyclinic, University of Catania, and the Master in Regulatory Disciplines of Drugs at the same University. He was President of the CRO Unifarm, Research Center of Clinical Pharmacology, until 2012. Since 2001 he has been a member of the Committee for the Evaluation of Drugs, Ministry of Health, Italy and from 2004 to 2012 of the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) as a member of the Technical-Scientific Commission. From 2012 to 2015 he was a member of the Prices and Reimbursement Committee, AIFA. For about
twenty years, until the end of 2015, he was a member of the Regional Commission for the Hospital Drugs Formulary in Sicily. From 2012 to 2014 he was President of the European Federation of Pharmacological Societies (EPHAR). In February 2019 he was appointed World
President of the Association for Ocular Pharmacology and Therapy and in May 2019 President of the Biomedical District for High Technology. Since October 2019 he is President of the Research and Consultancy Center in Regulatory Affairs and HTA (CERD), University of Catania. As a member of the AIFA committees, as a private consultant and President of CERD, he assessed the cost / effectiveness profile of a large number of drugs. He is the author of about 500 articles published in peer-reviewed journals.
